Turn-key dewatering services aid in the construction of two Gatewell structures in a new Missouri River Levee for the USACE.
THE CHALLENGE
This project included the construction of a new 4.5-mile Setback Levee (SBL), which crossed two (2) existing drainage ditches. Shallow groundwater was encountered during subgrade preparation for installation of the two (2) drainage pipelines with Gatewell structures. Since dewatering was not anticipated, this placed the project on hold and required the extensive turn-key dewatering system to be fast-tracked.
THE SOLUTION
The contractor had to competitively seek out qualified bidders to handle the dewatering efficiently and effectively. Several meetings with the USACE were required to gain approval for the system design, price, and approach. The Griffin plan was ultimately selected for being the most responsive, complete, and capable bid, even though it was not the lowest cost. Griffin’s design consisted of deep wells, a dual generator system with an auto switch gear, and telemetry to remotely determine flows and notify in case of generator failure or a decrease in groundwater flow.

GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE
Once Griffin was subcontracted, Griffin quickly provided an extensive dewatering submittal. Once approved, Griffin was under a very short time frame to install and pull together manpower, equipment, and materials. Not only did Griffin accomplish this in a short time frame, but Griffin delivered a successful dewatering system that lowered groundwater at the site as designed, ON TIME.
