Chesapeake Wellpoints

CHESAPEAKE CITY WWTP

CHESAPEAKE CITY, MD

A new wastewater treatment plant on the banks of a Chesapeake Bay feeder canal required 8 ft. of drawdown for construction.

THE CHALLENGE

This treatment plant is located on the banks of a canal connecting the Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware Bay. The soil was saturated and the water level was 5 ft. below ground. The excavation needed to extend more than 13 ft. below grade. The site was swampy and muddy, making access extremely difficult for the installation crew.

THE SOLUTION

Griffin’s operations team evaluated the site and determined the steps that were necessary to safely install the wellpoint system in the challenging environment. The contractor was on a tight schedule and leaned on the Griffin project management team for assistance in expediting the project schedule.

A 700 LF wellpoint system was installed to facilitate construction of the Process Building, Denite Filters, Headworks, and Influent Pump Station.

GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE

The Griffin team designed and installed the system to provide the required 8 ft. of drawdown allowing the excavation to proceed in workable conditions. Griffin worked closely with the client to expedite the installation as much as possible, while focusing on working safely in the difficult site conditions.
