CARNOTITE REMEDIATION

Chicago, Illinois

Griffin Dewatering teamed up with the Client to develop and implement a comprehensive groundwater control and treatment plan.

THE CHALLENGE

The Former Carnotite Reduction Remediation Project included excavations of up to 15 feet below ground surface, with groundwater being encountered approximately 9 feet below ground surface. Groundwater data from the site indicated the presence of Uranium in the groundwater which would require treatment prior to discharging per the permit requirements.

THE SOLUTION

To better define the water quality at the site, we performed sampling of several existing groundwater monitoring wells located at the project site. Griffin ultimately designed and installed a water treatment solution that incorporated sediment filtration, bag filtration, adsorptive media, and ion exchange media. The system operated successfully for approximately four (4) months until deep excavation activities were completed, and the dewatering was discontinued.

GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE

Griffin was able to successfully design, install, monitor, and remove a fully functioning dewatering and water treatment system, allowing the Contractor to meet their excavation and construction requirements for the project.

Griffin faced tight schedules, a rigorous review process, and multiple site logistic constraints due to the type and classification of the contamination. We were able to overcome these challenges using our experience, knowledge of treatment, and superior operations team.
