dewatering project

NAVAL SPECIAL OPS TRAINING FACILITY

CALIFORNIA

The project consists of the installation of a deep well system that will facilitate the construction of a 94,650 square foot (SF) Basic Training Command (BTC) Schoolhouse.

THE CHALLENGE

The project required work on a sensitive government site with increased security and safety protocols. Schedule was critical and any delays were subject to costly liquidated damages. Functionally, stratified soil conditions and flow limitations at the discharge point made dewatering challenging.

THE SOLUTION

Installation of a deep well system along with a web of monitoring wells within the excavation zone. The flow was kept under the target discharge level while maintaining drawdown by measuring water levels in the monitoring wells and frequently tuning the dewatering system. Several pump tests were performed at different locations on site to better understand the hydrogeological parameters and estimate an accurate flow needed for each structure.

GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE

Griffin successfully installed the dewatering system and achieved required drawdown under the discharge flow limitations. Griffin’s design and installation methodology met both the schedule and performance requirements of this challenging project.
