BISMARCK AIRPORT STORM SEWER

Bismarck, ND

The purpose of the project is to provide dewatering services to aid in the installation of a new lift station along with new stormwater sewer piping.

THE CHALLENGE

The jobsite extends out across open areas of an airport crossing 3 runways. These crossings will require micro tunneling from bore bits. The site is out in remote areas of the airport, so access to water for installation of the jetted wellpoints was an initial problem. We were also given soil borings that were all different, making determining the proper design difficult to pin down.

THE SOLUTION

Ultimately, we decided to go with a jetted wellpoint system, relying on the
contractor to bring us water to the install site running several hundred feet
of discharge to our work area. After completing several pumping tests, we
determined that the wellpoint design we came up with was the proper approach. Griffin installed all the wellpoints for the project, and the contractor will move the header, pumps and discharge as they move along the pipeline trench. By having the contractor complete some of the work, this kept the costs down and in their budget.

GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE

Griffin was able to complete the project with the budget the contractor had in mind at bid day, even with all the issues that were present. Griffin came prepared to the jobsite to meet the installation challenges, and got the work done on time
and on budget.
