Project Title: Love Field Parking Garage C, Love Field International Airport
Owner: Southwest Airlines
GC: Hensel Phelps Construction Company
Engineer: JACOBS
Project revenue: $420,000.00 +/-
Project TIME PERIOD: March 2016 – April 2017
Summary:
Dallas Love Field Airport seeks substantial dewatering solution during $208 million expansion project.
The Challenge:
As part of an expansion project at Love Field Airport located in Dallas, TX. Southwest Airlines needed a substantial dewatering solution during construction of a new eight (8) level parking structure with two (2) levels below grade.
To build the parking garage to specification, Griffin was hired to lower groundwater more than 27ft. and keep the water level consistent for the duration of the 14-month long project.
The Solution:
Forty (40) deep wells were installed approximately 45ft. deep surrounding the excavation of ±600ft. X ±400ft. The excavation was supported by a Soldier Piles & Wood Lagging shoring system.
By installing the deep well dewatering system, we were able to lower groundwater more than ±27ft. We also installed 1hp – 2hp submersible pumps in each well with total system flow rate of ±150 gpm.
The Griffin Difference:
The dewatering system started in March 2016 and continued operating until April 2017.
By designing and installing the correct dewatering system, we were able to provide consistent dewatering results and keep the project from running behind schedule by preventing fluctuating water levels. The project was successfully completed on schedule.
