Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals (commonly known as “forever” or GenX chemicals) that include the long-chain fluorinated compounds PFOA and PFOS. PFAS chemicals are utilized in industrial applications and consumer products. They are widely used to make products more stain-resistant, waterproof, and nonstick.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are manmade chemicals persistent in the following:
A specialized water treatment system is needed to treat and discharge any water from sites where PFAS contamination is present. Carbon adsorption systems are a popular choice when treating PFAS contamination in stormwater and groundwater but may not always be the most cost-effective solution.
